Due to COVID-19, The Bookshelf has been CANCELLED for 2020.

The Bookshelf – Where Readers Meet Authors

A book fair in the heart of Newmarket. As the residents start to stir, Canadian authors will gather at the community centre. From heart pulling romance and outlandish laughter, to black holes destroying spaceships and dwarfs battling elves, to crime and sacrifice, every genre has a place.

Meet your next favourite author at The Bookshelf

The 2020 date for The Bookshelf is Saturday June 6. Book your table today! We will have local authors, author readings, character actors, the town crier, literary themed cafe, kids zone, and free bookshelf bucks to spend at participating vendors. Help celebrate the uniqueness of our Canadian writers and publishers.

There’s a book waiting for everyone.

We had a wonderful Town Crier May 25.  See you June 2020!

The Bookshelf is an arm of the Writers’ Community of York Region, a not for profit organization. The event is to celebrate Canadian talent such as writers and publishers. It allows for the general public to have a chance to meet local creators of literary work.

book fairEveryone at The Bookshelf and the WCYR would like to thank all who attended as vendors, participants, and visitors to our 2019 event. It is you that we put this gathering together for. With your help, the event became a successful day allowing for all to have fun in a safe and warm environment. The Kid’s Corner entertained children of all ages and many came out to play with us that day.

It is our hope this event can continue for many years to come.

Mark your calendars! The Bookshelf is returning Saturday June 6, 2020 to the Newmarket Community Centre.
