The Bookshelf – Where Readers Meet Authors

A book fair in the heart of Newmarket.

As the residents start to stir, Canadian authors will gather near the community centre along the Riverwalk Commons. From heart pulling romance and outlandish laughter, to black holes destroying spaceships and dwarfs battling elves, to crime and sacrifice, every genre has a place.

Meet your next favourite author at The Bookshelf

The 2023 date for The Bookshelf is Saturday June 10. WCYR Member registration will be accessible May 13-21 and Public registration will open May 22nd! We’re having an in-person event in Newmarket at the Riverwalk Commons, nearby the Farmers’ Market.

In the past we’ve been able to celebrate with live author readings, character actors, the town crier, a literary themed café, kids zone, and more. However, to allow for more organic traffic, our in-person event will be held outdoors in an open environment showcasing a selection of local authors of all genres.

Help celebrate the uniqueness of our Canadian writers and publishers.

There’s a book waiting for everyone.

NOTE: During the time of COVID-19 the Bookshelf will be following the mandates of the Ontario Health Advisor, York Region Public Health, and the Town of Newmarket regarding these types of in-person events, when they can happen, how many attendees are permitted at one time, prerequisites for personal protective equipment, and more. Vendors and attendees must individually take full responsibility to assess any risks to their health, considering all factors and information available. The organizers will monitor the situation closely and keep Exhibitors updated. At one week prior to the Show, we will verify continuation or cancellation.
