That’s what The Bookshelf is — a fantastic way for readers of all ages to connect with local Canadian authors of all genres and age ranges.
Traditionally, every year at The Bookshelf we showcase any combination of authors, writing organizations, small publishers, and reading-related artisans.

Located along the Newmarket Riverwalk Commons next to the Farmers Market, near the Story Pod, you can peruse books outside at your leisure and enjoy being in good company (rain or shine).
Our WCYR Volunteer booth is staffed by members and friends who can direct you to a particular booth, answer a membership question, or sell you a ticket for a prize draw (on display). All money raised goes into supporting the event and the Writers’ Community of York Region’s not-for-profit mandate.

NOTE: During the time of COVID-19 The Bookshelf will be following the mandates of the Ontario Health Advisor, York Region Public Health, and the Town of Newmarket regarding these types of in-person events, when they can happen, how many attendees are permitted at one time, prerequisites for personal protective equipment, and more.
